It’s certainly got a lot of variety. You’ve got one of the biggest cities in America with Philadelphia, a big city in Pittsburgh, and a whole lot of places like Shamokin in between.

There are a few other bastions of civilization, but yeah, pretty much. I live about an hour north of Philly in the state's third largest city, and we're close enough to Philly and NYC to be a pretty populated area.

I don’t generally do chains (although I’ll make an exception for fresh Krispy Kreme) but DD is just incomprehensibly stale every time I’ve tried it. Living in the Boston area was wretched because people there actually believed that was the gold standard and I couldn’t even.

Even when they’re fresh they’re not very good.

Lamar’s is the only chain I like.  There’s a decent local place near us though.

Indianapolis is overrun with the best yeast donuts I’ve ever found, anywhere. I’d put 4 different local donut shops against the best any city has to offer, and there’s a 5th which has a powdered sugar cream-filled donut which is just magnificent.

I grew up in Bucks County, but  have a bunch of family out further in the middle of the state. It, um, starts to look like a mashup of West Virginia and upstate New York pretty quick when you get out there.

They left the Denver metro area about 16-17 years ago, though there were still a couple in Colorado Springs. They came back a couple years ago, and that's when I found out they discontinued their chocolate crullers. THEY ARE DEAD TO ME NOW.

I grew up/live in Allentown. Used to do in- home sales across the eastern half of the state. Everything east of State College. Lots of places like Shamokin.

I’m still hooked on their breakfast sandwiches and hash rounds, but yes, you can do just as well with a box of Entenmann’s from the grocery store.

THIS is back when DD was da shit!:

Nowadays, DD uses a third party supplier that ships donuts to each store frozen  and defrost when needed.

I desperately want to go to that town and bask in the  stupidness. I want to people watch for hours, wide-eyed in wonder. Perhaps even fake their accent and pretend to be one of them for a few minutes. NO!!! I’ve got it!!

I would actually go there, speak in the deepest East Texas twang I could muster, and allow them to believe that I am the dumb one* ! Oh it would be GLO RIOUS TAKE ME THERE NOW!!!!

*I have actually done this several times, usually when visiting Chicago. Never fails to entertain.

What all these goofball Cletus Safaris where they go out into the country and try to find “real America” don’t get is that the one restaurant that’s there is like, really important, man.

DQ was the only thing open on Sundays in Mom’s town and I will cut the fool who comes between me and a Dude sandwich.

Dunkin is okay, but Tim's is better and closer. If I want a good donut, I'll drive to one of the two 24 hour places each about a half hour from me. Locally owned joints with way better donuts.
